Transparent, Scalable Growth
After more than a decade in the digital agency space, we've seen the results of month-over-month optimization and analysis - the evolution of campaigns as time goes on, yielding better results on the same (or less) spend. It's core to the business model of an agency, being able to deliver more efficiently over time to reach contract benchmarks within a fixed fee structure. This also where things can weaken in terms of the agency-client "partnership", with the agency having certain inherent biases - and a need to turn a profit - the "TCO" and lifetime ROI of campaigns is somewhat overlooked when considering the fixed-fee structure does not share risk proportionately.
If you're taking the risk of fixed-fee retainers without concrete deliverables, by way of qualified leads or revenue - then you should at least be able to take part in those efficiencies. Furthermore, your partner holds a lot of leverage, often owning the systems, strategies, personnel, software and tools, and expertise, to run these campaigns for you on a turnkey basis (which of course in itself is valuable and has a time and place).

The agency model asserts its value in that it can provide a full team of disciplines, without the need to staff all of them (many of which you wouldn't need full-time), and they are already "ready to go".
The problem is that those agency biases, combined with a natural rift in what they know about your business versus your internal teams and competing fundamental interests - those can add a lot of friction overtime, diminish returns, and that's if they're even delivering in the first place (and optimally).
